The Ensemble Les haulz et les bas is known for its innovative, vital and virtuosic performances of mediaeval music on shawms, bagpipes, trumpets and percussion. Michel Godard, one of Europe's leading Jazz musicians, has rediscovered and redefined another ancient wind instrument, the Serpent, in the context of modern improvised music. Commissioned for the 'Alpentöne' festival 2011, this new programme reworks mediaeval themes, including music by the Monk of Salzburg, Oswald von Wolkenstein and Guillaume Du Fay, and Godard's own compositions into a new and unique synthesis, crossing over borders of time, space and cultures.
