'Noyse': mediaeval English expression for a group of minstrels playing loud instruments. The early 15th century was one of the few periods in music history when the English were recognised as the leaders in the field. Continental composers talked of the contanence Anglaise - the new English face of music - and this sweeter, harmonious style was taken on and developed by composers throughout Europe. This programme presents 'high' and 'low' - courtly and popular English music from the 14th and 15th centuries for the loud instruments, with music by Dunstable, Bedyngham, Morton, Fayrfax and many others.
